ABOUT ME

Email: laura_vincent_123@hotmail.com

A recently graduated MA Visual Communication student with UCA Canterbury.

I also completed a BA (Hons) Illustration & Animation to explore what is important to me and what I want to communicate within my artistic practice.

My work often challenges what is commonly accepted as ‘normal’ in contemporary culture. I like to visually comment on political, social and cultural issues including mental health awareness, equality of opportunity, animal rights, environment, feminism and women’s rights.

I have been developing my digital drawing skills to replicate and retain the charm and interest that I have previously achieved through mixed media, combining a range of printmaking and traditional drawing techniques. My previous work is initially created using analogue visual communication processes and then aided by digital editing and composition software.

I am interested in editorial illustration, making publications and narrative drawing, often using bold colours, combinations, and experimental mark-making to highlight chosen elements. My influences range from travel, typography, printmaking, stitching, collage and other craft hobbies. Dogs often appear in my work as they create relatable characters that help communicate a message without carrying the preconceived judgements and assumptions that we put on human characters.

Looking forward to using my creative skills in whatever new path my journey takes!
